not sure if this belongs here or in the styling section, mods please feel free to move it...

right, I want to permanently fit my standard plastic arches as they are temporarily held by double sided sticky tape :shy:

Riv nuts seem to be the best way to go for so a couple of questions about them:

What size are needed to fit them) is it the same tool as a normal pop-rivet gun or is it a specific one? finally, are them easy to find (B&Q maybe) other than ebay?

You don't need a special tool. You just need a nut and bolt. Wind the bolt into the Rivnut until it compresses and grips into place.

Have a google for "Home made rivnut tool" for a Far better explaination.

Loads of place sell riv-nuts, most car places like Europa and Burton Power sell them, and I'm sure I saw some in the MachineMart catalogue, I'm sure most motor factors would probably sell them too.

Ebay might be cheapest though, probably the easiest too, :D

I've never managed to compress a rivnut with a bolt, may be i'm just unlucky but I ended up buying a tool much easier and it works for the side door mirrors

I've used M4 rivnuts too. Stainless, with torx head bolts to match. I bought a cheap rivnut tool for, I think, under £10 off eBay. It's not the greatest, but it worked well for the small jobs I've used it for. Also, having the tool means you can put rivnuts in to places with no access to the rear.

I didn't think the budget tools had the strength to compress steel rivnuts?

I got my rivnut gun from car builder solutions, around £25 I think with a bunch of rivnuts. I've used it for everything on my car to get ride of self tappers. Grill/surround, headlight bowls, mirrors etc

This is the one I bought: http://www.amazon.co...t/dp/B000WTJPLO

Took a bit of effort but they all compressed and seated okay. The tool really is cheaply made, but it does at least direct your force to the rivnut rather than just bending itself.
