Im using a 3/4 AF spanned on the nut but it wont budge. Just taken most of the skin off my elbow as well as i slipped and caught it in the arch.
Don't really have the tools to heat up/start cutting things to pieces.
Is the thread sided? Which was is the correct way to turn it?
Iv been going anti clockwise but not so sure now

Have you got a spanner on the track rod end also, so you can keep it still?
Penetrant spray (not WD40) and heat would be the next options, a small burner won't set you back much at all.
Last ditch attempt would be to cut the nut diagonally across one of the flat faces, close to all the way through with a dremmel or hacksaw then it will split when you apply torque. You will need a new nut though

I had been using WD40 but il have a root around for something more penetrative.
We MIGHT have a small burner in the garage now i come to think of it, il go for a rummage. Il get a plaster while im there

Found something other than WD40 so il let it soak in that and repeated over the next few hours before work

to crack off the retaining bolt you want to wind it up the thread, so you want to tighten it, righty tighty, clockwise ;) keep the track rod attached to the hub until you crack off the retaining nut :)
Haha! Good point that man, my caffeine deprived brain totally missed that detail.
Thread is normal but nut needs to tighten to move away from the rod end.
I'm going to make some coffee!

Good save Smartie.

I believe that it would be an 11/16" AF spanner required for the factory fitted nyloc nut
