Hi
On my mini, I have had to replace the brake light switch, and I then bled the system free of air.

When I now press the brake pedal, it travels quite a bit before it comes to a stop, and when I let go and press again a few seconds later, the pedal seems to travel quite a bit less.

Is this normal? The pedal is very firm, ie, not spongy, suggesting there is no air in the system. I have also checked for leaks but cannot find any.

Can anyone please advise me on what may be wrong, or is this normal?

Thanks
John

It depends on how extreme it is. While you're not moving, it is normal for this to happen a small amount, because after the first 'pump', the pads/shoes might not have returned fully if that makes sense. If this is the case then its probably down to poorly adjusted rear shoes

Is it the same while moving?

Hi
Well, I havn't take the car on the road since bleeding (just did this tonight).

I do understand about the brake shoe travel, yes. My mini has drums all round, and on the forst pump, the pedal is rock hard, no sponginess at all.
The same goes for the second pump, even when the brake pedal goes lower on he second pump.
You still think its shoes badly adjusted?

Ahhh, drums all round. If it's roc solid then I'd say its either just like that or there's a leak.

Give it a good check over for leaks and keep an eye on the fluid level. Other than that, keep the drums adjusted and it's perfectly normal.

I have a mate with a moris minor. He had the same issue. He replaced the whole system and still the same... It was only when he had a go in somebody elses he realised it was completely normal! They're really bad too.. Pedal almost reaches the floor on the first pump

OK, Tomorrow i will adjust all drums, by locking each wheel in turn, and then backing off each pair of wheels by the same amount to get a good left and right balance. I guess when the drum just brushes the shoe briefly when spinning the wheel.

I have checked for leaks...none found
