Hello, I am currently restoring a Morris Deluxe 1965 and am in the process of doing the mechanics.
The recently reconditioned engine is a standard 1098 with the exception of 40+ bore
The gearbox looks to be an A+ but has some heavy wear on most of the gears.
I also have a second (un-conditioned) engine which is a standard 998 with a Pre-A series gearbox (all in very good condition, low miles)
I have done some research but thought I'd check to make sure
My questions are...
1. Can I use the gear set from the Pre-A, in the A+ Gearbox? I'm aware that many of the parts (Laygear, Primary gear, etc) are quite different. It's just that new gears are really expensive so it would be great if I can use the gearset from the Pre-A.
2. Which Gearbox is better? I'm guessing the newer A+ for obvious improvement reasons. It may just be better to use the old gearbox instead?
Apologies for any ignorance!
Cheers - Jez
