Hi,

I have a quick question about engine oil, I have just built my Stage 3 1330cc unit, with 1.5 rockers and lightenend flywheel?

My question today is which oil is best to use for this engine?

Is the Halfords Classic 20w50 oil any good, and how much oil do I need in the engine?

All help appriciated

Thank You

Bobby

Millers do CLASSIC MINI OIL 20w50 (Product code 5489) as well, that will be better than the Halfords stuff but cheaper than CTV. I use CTV in mine though (trackdays & sprints).

Hey look, a can of worms. Best stick my cap opener in too.

I always used 20/50 mineral oil. Just regular stuff from part shop, changed regularly. See no point to order away or run about finding Millers or the Duck one.

This is cheaper than CVT, fully mineral and very good:

That's the same stuff I was on about, I think Millers call it "Classic Mini Oil" now (that's really what it always was anyway). Nothing called Trans M on their site anymore (that I can find, their site is awful now). Presumably minispares just buy it in bulk so still have it under the old name.

I've always favoured the Millers or Penrite, note you will need close to 5 Litres and oils like Castrol come in 4.5 litre bottles so you may need a top up 1 litre bottle

Use any oil you like, just change it regularly, however, if this is a new engine, ie new rings and shells, then use the cheapest ******* oil you can find and run it for 50 miles before dropping and replacing it with whatever you choose to use..

To run in, an engine needs to wear, and if you put an oil which has all sorts of wear reducing additives, all you're going to do is prolong the run-in and probably damage your nice new engine before you've had a chance to use it.
