Hi, I've found loads of info on gauge wiring but struggling to get mine working, and find very little around the module on the dizzy. Its an older loom and so I've run a +ve from the ignition to the + terminal of the coil, and then both sides of the coil to the module on the dizzy.

To wire the rvc type gauge I have a wire from the - terminal of the coil to the male bullet connector of the gauge. Then a live feed from the ignition to the gauge and the earth to the body.

Nothing showing on the rev counter, and I have seen it working before I changed the wiring to allow for electronic ignition and a pre-engaged starter.

Am I being silly and missing something or have I somehow fryed my gauge.? Thanks

The way mines wired is slightly different. Mines an after market one.
Mines wired just from the -ve side of the coil. The wire goes from the coil through the rev counter then to the points.
I don't know if that helps at all. Failing that look at the later wiring diagram in the haynes manual.

H.M.M. is describing the wiring for an RVI type (earlier) tachometer. That will not be the same as yours.

FIrst, make sure your ignition is working... I assume the engine runs.
Do not install the tach in the car. Test it first just simply resting under the bonnet.
RVC gauges have a couple of different possible earth configuration methods. Some have a spade lug spot welded to the case. Some RVC tachs expect you to use a ring terminal crimped onto an earth wire secured on one of the gauge mounting studs. Whichever you have, make sure the earth connection is clean and good. Run an earth wire directly to a clean bare metal location behind the dash. (While working under the bonnet, attach the earth lead to a bare spot on the engine).
The tach's switched 12V power connection almost always a male spade lug on an insulated plate. It will be right next to the male bullet.. While working under the bonnet, make sure to connect that to a known good power source. Look for the point where all the brown wires connect to the starter solenoid and use that spot.
Finally you have the sense wire connection. That should be a wire going from the tach's bullet connector to the coil (-) terminal. That will be the coil terminal with the wire going to the distributor.

Wired like that under the bonnet, start the engine. The tach should work. If not, check that you have 12V at/on the tach itself with the ignition on, then check all the wires for continuity.

I am not trying to be rude but please re-read your last post and either modify it or post again. I cannot make sense of what you have written.

Fair enough, what I am trying to say is, is putting 2 wires to the dizzy from either side of the coil affecting the gauge, and therefore perhaps the rev counter needs to take a feed from the dizzy module instead of the coil.
