Would this be right, seen one listed on ebay and has been removed from a 35.

Been needing to know for which carb rebuild kit.

Just to check HIF means Horizontal Integral Float?

I've a feeling it's more likely to be a HIF38. Don't quote me on that though. HIF44s were more often used on the Cooper varieties, though I'm not too sure as to what level of tune the engine in the 35 was at. My friend has a '94 Sprite, and that has a HIF38.

Does it say it anywhere on the carburettor itself?

And the 35' is an odd set up, It had bits of SPi but it was also a carb engine - It had a catalytic converter from new? and a few other bits that I can't remember, speedo goes to 110 if thats any help :P

Mini 35s had HIF38s as standard. You can check by measuring the diameter of the aperture. If it's 38mm then it's a HIF38, and if it's 44mm then it's a HIF44.

If the carb still has it's little metal tag, usually held in place by one of the dashpot screws the number on that will tell you the carb size...

Or at least the size carb the tag came off :P

Measuring the hole is the most accurate, of course.

I could be wrong but I think the rebuild kit fits both. The minispares site only lists one number for both carbs.

Does a manifold fit both?, Mines lets say, a Tad rotten.

I am not sure but I think the bolt pattern is the same, but you need one with a 44mm hole or the air flow will be terrible. Most ally manifolds are meaty enough that you could open it up to 44mm.

Manifold will fit either and the service kit is the same. But a complete rebuild kit will be size specific, as it has a new butterfly in it.

you can tell the differance by the flange the filter elbow bolts too, the HIF44 is differant to the a HIF38 as the HIF38 has the same flange as a HS4

Hi Noah

I have a 94 35 and it's got the original HiF 38 on it.
but has a Stage 1 kit fitted. (alloy manifold) and an AAU needle.

On the RR we found that the restriction in power wasn't in the carb, but the filter (K&N in the original housing)

We couldn't get sufficient air flow to get beyond the capacity of the HiF38.

A 44 fits onto the manifold (same pattern), but was only fitted onto the pre-SPi Coopers, and had a special air filter to suit, I think

Well worth £5 even if it is just a 38. Does it NEED a rebuild kit? If it's working - just use as is......
