cutting bulk head

hi


i may have to use a t3 turbo for a while so im going to cut the bulkhead, which isent to bad realy as my dads done it before for his twin webbers.
i may then swop the t3 for a t2 once its worn in and iv got my hands on one!!
by having the turbo in the bulkhead will it keep it cooler than having it were the mirage kit puts it?
also isent the standerd inlet manifold better for flowing than the mirage kit?

i wouldn't have thought it'd make any difference heat wise which setup you go for. it still gets *******in hot under there after a bit of enthusiastic driving.

as for the inlet manifold you can still use a stock turbo one, or an MG n/a one they both fit. just use whichever you've got to hand.

You dont cut the cross member for a weber box...

be aware its more involved than that and you MUST replace the strength you loose by cutting out a lump of important metal.

Not being scary, just making sure you know theres a slight difference ;D

yup agree with alex, make sure its fully seam welded and that the box itself is, mine was only spotwelded together when i bought it. Dont forget about the corner you need to cut off at an angle on the n/s aswell else you'll have major grief with the actuator/inlet pipe...

Actually strength wise the spot welds on the bulkhead box will be just as strong as a seam weld.

Same goes for the rest of the shell really. It's only when you really hammer the car (like rallying) that a seam weld is useful as they are less prone to fatigue. That's wht my shell isn't seam welsed (except where i've replaced panels) as it's just extra weight with no structural advantage for me.

I haven't seam welded my bulkhead box, it's installed a received.

would it help make space for other stuff like an intercooler etc?
is there alot of differnce between the T2 and T3? is there a way that you could adjust the T3 to make it boost earlyer down the rev range like 2500rpm, or is that only possible with a T2?

Don't worry about the temp of the Turbo, whichever way you go, Mirage or Metro setup it will be fine.
With or without a bulkhead box makes no difference when installing an intercooler, this needs to be positioned infront of the engine in the airstream.
The size of the exhaust turbine and the AR ratio alter the characteristics of the Turbo, but if your wanting to see boost at 2,500rpm go the T2 route. You won't be dissapointed.
