Can anyone tell me if a wet front subframe is the same as a dry one ? I mean can you take out the hydro bits and simply fit a trumpet and cone ?

Nothing is impossible - but not a straight swop. Top arms are slightly different too......

The only reason I ask is my cooper has a wet subframe fitted but is missing the hydro bits and top arms .And the two bolt dry front frames seem to be a bit rare.

The only significant difference is that the hydro frame has some small lugs in the tower tops to locate the hydro units.Just knock them back or grind them away so that the new rubber spring cones will sit firmly and snugly into the towers.
As Roy has said, the hydro top arms are slightly different in geometry, but so long as the damper pins are added, they can be used so long as Hi-Lo's are used to set the ride height correctly.
You need the long bolts, but these can be made if necessary, or lengths of threaded studding can be used.
I have a sub-frame which was originally hydro in my 'S' and is now dry it's fine.
