Sorry for all the questions of late but I’m having a real push at the moment to try and move the mini on loads before the cold weather sets in...

so I need to order some silicone hoses, I’ve got a MK3 and I’ve fitted a 1986 1275 A+ carburettor engine, I think these are the hoses I want from mini spares http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Cooling_heating/Water/Hoses_fixings/C-GRH002.aspx?070302&ReturnUrl=/search/classic/hose can someone just confirm i'm barking up the right tree here?

Also I’ve noticed there’s a few different ways of routing the hoses around the engine bay, this is the set up I want with the two hoses going through the bulk head on the passenger side because I fitted a brake servo.

Will the above set be alright for this? or is there not different hose sets for different ways of routing them?

It’s just a lot of money and i don't want to order the wrong set so would apprieciate a few of you just confirming I'm on the right tracks

Cheers

P.S I would just ring minispares but they're closed O_O

I still have no idea why people use silicone hoses, the price is staggering.

Also I got no info, so have a wee bump.

It's the looks I’m afraid Adam, yes they might last a little longer and can stand higher temps and pressures but if I’m honest they just look the business in my opinion.

Granted they are expensive tho...

Anyone got any idea, will the set in the link I’ve posted above allow me to plumb my 1275 A+ carburettor engine the way it's been done in the picture above?

Cheers

Looks? LOOK! Engine should be covered in oil, blood, spit and 1 can of Dr. Pepper crushed up the back because you forgot to take it out.

I'm going to bed now.

There easier to fit.
For what they cost, i'd rather fight to fit a rad bottom hose.
Plus i dont get the coloured pipes thing >_<

Well, the heater hose is just half inch (sort of, later models use larger pipe size, but if you swear, you can shove a half inch pipe on).

So what you can do, just buy a silicone top and bottom hose, then by length buy the heater pipe. Its fairly standard 13mm stuff, so just measure your fitting sizes and find a pipe to suit, then plonk the ID (internal diameter for the pipe) into google with the words silicon pipe and see what you find.

~For example, 1 meter of 13mm ID pipe (half inch, close enough) - http://www.specialis...-hose-blue.html

Well if I do something like that it works out about a tenner cheaper but i worry about the colour matching....

Looks like they're out of stock on mini spares anyway so might have to just get the top and bottom hoses (which are in stock and just get a length of 1/2" hose form somewhere else.

I've just rang minispares and it turns out that kit will fit what 'm trying to do and it doesn't matter how the pipes are routed, you just need a top and bottom hose and two lengths of 1/2" hose like you said above Adam, the only thing is tho they couldn't tell me when the bits are likely to back in stock, I gotta ring back Monday.

Thank for your help guys

Can't believe this post! My exact problem. Gettin new hose kit from MS, but is an SPI car with 1275 A+ carb engine, and was worrying if the heater pipes would be long enough, as the current pipes come through bulkhead same as pic above.

Let me know how u get on tractor!

I guess thats whats this forum is for JMini, O_O

I'm 90% sure they'll fit but i'll let know when ever they're back in stock and i get hold of a set.

so what have you done Jmini? you taken your spi engine out and replaced it with a 1275 A+ carb engine? whats the reasoning behind that then other than 1275 A+ carb engines rule..!! ;D

cheers

The original car was an SPI import from Germany. Done a load of miles. It was converted to RHD and the engine was replaced with an MG Metro engine with under 15k on the clock. If you believe the clocks that is....

I replaced mine with standard kevlar hoses and it cost something like £40, just as a comparison to the silicone hoses.
As for the worrying about heater hoses length, im 99% sure you get 1 long length you cut to size that gives 1-2 ft spare at the end, depending on how you route the pipes (thats how my kevlar hoses came anyway)
