I have repaired the inner sill. The door step needs replacing and also the rear lower wing. Should i do this before or after fitting the outer sill.

Im worried if i cut the door step out, it might bend the car.

I gonna say the before, so you have some more space for repairing the step and rear wing.

I'm sure a bodywork wiz (sonikk) will be along shortly to give yu a definate answer.

You should brace across the door opening. Two bars crossed, and joined where they cross, one end of each attached a couple of inches above the curved part of the door step, the other just below window level. Then you can do it in any order.

By the way, you also need to replace the rear closing panel, which lies behind the body side panel, as it is also rusted through. Part 47 on the Somerford diagram.

As Tiger has said brace across the door aperture then you can remove the door step. What repair panel have you bought for the door step, is it the complete panel that's goes along the rear quarter panel if so this will help to make your life easier to replace the rear arch close out panel.

The close out panel is spot welded to the rear arch, the top flange of the heelboard and the side of the companion bin.

Also the inner sill stiffener tang is welded on top of the close out.

The inner sill stiffener tang although this is a fabricated stiffener and the tang is shorter.

Once you have done this then you can fit the repair section doorstep followed by the outer sill.

Great thanks for your help, the photos were very useful. I have repaired part of that panel from below while i was repairing the heel board. I may put the subframe in and put the car on the ground. Then do all the bracing then cut out the bits as above. Here is my project thread

Yup, I'd brace that as well.

If you do the same repair again its best to do the door step first, then the inner sill and then the outer sill. In that order theres no real need to brace it up

Ive just had mine done , had it all replaced instead of just doing the oversills. Replace door step, and i Wouldnt fit oversills at all , does more damage than Anything,
