Hay everyone, I bought a 1994 Japanese imported cooper 1.3i as my first car in March it took me a while to save for it, working long nights and crazy weeks but I love it and it was all worth it. I'm really keen to get to know mini's and just cars in general inside out, so I hope you don't mind an odd question here and there. As my first I was told it has a 1340 engine and who I bought it off of wasn't sure how to check, I've done some looking around and it's determined by the "bore" though I'm not sure what that is ....

Well welcome!

The 'bore' of an engine is the diameter of the hole the pistons move up and down in; the 'stroke' is how far they move up and down. Multiply the two together, and you have the cubic capacity of the engine. The volume that can potentially be filled with petrol/air mixture to burn. Essentially a bigger capacity engine means more petrol/air burning, means more power!

But to measure the bore entails removing the cylinder head and actually measuring the holes. For what it's worth, around 1330cc rather than 1340cc is a common overbore of a 1275cc "1.3i" engine [Plus 60/1000ths of an inch]. This link in the forum might help -

Japanese car should mean it's got excellent bodywork. The perfect place to begin! You'll have to post some pics as soon as you can!
