It's a 1992 carbed 1275 hif44.
So its been off the road for a year for a resto. Confident with the electrics since getting a spark at the plugs. Also checked the firing order and leads are in correctly. Checked if getting fuel by removing fuel hose and cranking over and getting steady flow of clean fuel. But when I turn it over it just keeps cranking and doesn't show any sign of wanting to start. Chucked a small ammount of petrol in the carb mouth while cranking and was sounding hopeful but still doesn't want to start. Checked carb action, piston moves freely and plenty of oil in dashpot. I'm now out of ideas, can anyone help?
Many thanks in advance

Vulcan, I'm not sure. I'll loosen the clamp on the dizzy and try rotating a few degrees either way and see what happens.
Also does anyone know how to give a hif44 a quick cleanout? I've taken the dashpot and piston out to check the condition and all seems fine. Can I take the bottom plate off and empty the float chamber?

Tip MORE petrol down the carb - and crank it.

Just had a fiddle with it this morning and heeded your advice bmc. Sounded more encouraging this time but still no start. It sounded like it was ready to burst into life but wasnt quite there yet. I had another look at the coil wiring and cleaned some terminals up. Then sounded better. I decided to check the resistance across the coil terminals without anything wired up on it, I was getting around 2.5 to 5 ohms which was very worrying and the coil was warm to the touch after all the cranking. Also I remembered that when I was checking the plugs for sparking I wasn't getting a great spark, it was orangey rather than a bright blue. So I'm off to get a new 12v coil. Wish me luck

Checked the resistance across the + and - terminals on the coil again this morning. I'm getting 0.9 ohms with 0.2ohms across the probes so 0.7 ohms effectively. It's a non ballast 12v coil for an electriconic dizzy. Is the coil definitely fubared?

Just to let you know, shiny new coil and plugs did the trick. Sprang into life after 1 turn of the key
