Hey guys.

I managed to pick up a 1275 metro engine (unsure of model due to engine numbers missing) for a very good price. Pretty much rebuilding it as a fast road daily.

all the cylinders are fine baring cylinder 4 looks like a bit of pitting that i can feel with my finger nail.

Now my question is do i now need to rebore all the cylinders (if so going +.020) or will a machinist be able to polish cylinder 4 out to get rid of the pitting?

I haven't seen the engine running so don't know if this wear causes any smoking et al.

Cheers for your time.

Hard to tell from pic - but circumstantially engine is at least 11 years old (20 if out of a metro) so probably 80K plus - unless very very lucky - most likely time for a rebore anyway - if you can feel ridging at the top of the bore with your nail most likely needs a rebore - take it to your nearest machine shop & let them check it out - rebores aren't expensive (about 100 quid) factoring in new pistons / rings (assuming using 21253's or whatever they're now called in "Nural speak") should get a mug of tea out of 300 quid.. enjoy

If you do a rebore - may as well grind the crank and fit a new oil pump while in there. Frankly though - I would probably just run some fine oiled wet/dry round that and see how it cleans up - and if it doesn't look too bad - run it and see how it performs !

New oil pump is on the cards and just waiting to strip down to the crank to take a look see at the condition.

Will give it a go with wet/dry and see how it turns out, already budgeted in a rebore so if i don't need to do one great, if I do then no dramas.
