What McD's parking mafia are saying is that the person who parked the car is in breach of the contract that person made when parking. However, since they do not know who actually parked the car and have absolutely no way of discovering this, they cannot make a claim in a court of law which is the only way of making this a 'fine' or, more correctly in a breach of contract case, damages. Even if they did discover absolutely that you were the driver and you refused to pay and they went to the small calims court, they would have to establish that the damages claimed were reasonable. What damage could you have caused by over-staying. They might have lost the sale of a couple of burgers at most.
Once again, do not respond however aggressive they get and however much you want to tell them to **** off. There is no legislation to make you disclose the driver's name.

My advice would be to totally ignore it - both Cooperman and the solicitor in the video clip are entirely correct, and I would only modify the video solicitors advice in so much that I would put the letter and any future ones through a shredder.
What I might also suggest may be an interesting exercise would be for you to write a letter to MacDonalds head office marking it for the pesonal attention of their Customer Liaison Director (sending it recorded delivery would be even better) and ask him to comment on how they (MacDonalds) view this barely legal treatment of their customers by one of their sub contracted service companies. Tell him you intend taking it up with your MP and ask whether he is happy about the prospect that yet again MacDonalds name is on course to be dragged into the full glare of the media spotlight where undoubtedly they (MacDonalds) will be yet again shown up as being little other than a ruthless profit orientated, uncaring Company who, other than taking money from them, consider treating their customers with complete disdain is the norm.
I know its easy to say dont worry, but pleae, dont lose any sleep over it.
Oh, I would also tend to vote with my wheels and head in the direction of Burger King next time you're hungry!

As always!
Far too many people just pay these fines and they are hoping you do the same!

This is excellent advice normally, but McD's have shown time and time again that they don't give a damn about customers or public opinion. Unless you can get a couple of thousand people together I would say you have no chance. Follow Cooperman's advice, ignore it, but personally I would keep the correspondence just in case.Tell him you intend taking it up with your MP and ask whether he is happy about the prospect that yet again MacDonalds name is on course to be dragged into the full glare of the media spotlight where undoubtedly they (MacDonalds) will be yet again shown up as being little other than a ruthless profit orientated, uncaring Company who, other than taking money from them, consider treating their customers with complete disdain is the norm.
