Hi Guys,

After getting my Mini MOT'd the tester pointed out that although it wasnt quite failable my idle was quite high (about 1200rpm). I thought it was a simple case of adjusting the idle but this was not the answer!

It seems that since I rebuilt the carb myself the butterfly spindle wont return to fully closed when you let off the throttle. However, if I push it, it will return and idle drops to about 800rpm. Ive tried undoing the butterfly and re-seating as well as loosing and re-tightening the the spindle. Neither of which worked.

Anyone know what else I could do?

Its also worth mentioning that when I had the carb apart I cut the spindle and countersunk the butterfly as per the bible.

Thanks in advance.

seems you're pretty au fait with mechanical stuff so I hate to suggest the blinkin obvious but there's enough slack on the throttle inner cable? After that need to ensure that the choke high idle device, cam, isnt interfering with the throttle. They're the 2 that spring to mind immediately. Did you remove the torsion springs for the throttle spindle at rebuild time, not 100% on this but I believe they need pre-tensioning .The fact that you can push it back to 800 suggests the butterfly and carb body haven't worn thus leaving an air gap. I normally hold the carb up to the light with it at idle position and check for a good fit round the butterfly

There is slack in the cable and the springs are tensioned properly. I lost a lot of skin tensioning them!

Looks like I will have to take it off and check for a good fit like you say.
