Unfortunately it's not one of the end ones so it is proper tucked under the manifold.
Any tips to getting it out without removing the head?

this will help it pick the thread up and aid removal

Can you get the nut off? If you can, and if you keep on turning it the threads will eventually be gone and a pair of grips on it and you'll just be able to pull it off.
Then remove the manifold and get a stud remover (not an 'Easi-out), the proper sort which drives from a ratchet handle, and clamp it on and unscrew the stud. You may find a strong pair of Mole Grips will do it.
When finally fitting the head consider using 1.25" long 5/16" hex. head screws instead of the studs as then if the head gasket goes at any time you will be able to remove the head without disturbing inlet or exhaust manifolds beyond just pushing them back about 1/4".
If you are anywhere near me I can lend you the correct extractor. I'm near Cambridge/Huntingdon.

Tried the screwdriver behind the nut but not moved a bit.
Can't put another nut on the end as there isn't enough thread and looks like what there is has stripped too.
The gap between the manifold and the nut is not deep enough for me to get a hacksaw blade into.
May have to admit that the head will have to come off so I can access it easier unless anyone else has any tips. Unfortunately don't have someone who could weld it on for me

Get another nut the same size and tighten it onto the stuck nut. Should be able to un-screw it from the head then.
This is how ive always dealt with this problem! Put another nut on the thread and tighten it untill it hits the bolt thats stuck, then undo the bolt thats stuck and it'll twist the stud out rather then undo the nut.
