Hello!

After having my second mini for about 2 and a half months now, I seem to have encountered a problem.
The issue only started occuring a few weeks back but it had since now stopped.
Up until now.
My car idles normally on 1000 revs, but when driving, it will occasionally stall itself when I come to a stop and put the clutch down.
I can save it from stalling by adding a little gas but its quite hard considering i need my right foot to stop!
Its restarted every time once stalling but one occasion, where I could not get it started again (rush hour traffic :( typical!)
After I managed to get it pushed to a safe place I tried starting it again and It started fine, but still had the issue where If i stopped it would stall itself.
Also in some instances when left to idle it may sit at around 800, and become close to stalling.
It's a recently reconditioned gold seal 998cc which has done about 50k
A point to add is that my fan belt has started slipping slightly every now and then, which of course won't do much good in respects to the alternator, but does anyone know if there may be anything else that may help to fix the problem?
One other issue is over-run which would most likely come down to the timing, which i've yet to find the time to fix. While we're at it does anyone know what degrees btdc I should time it to?

Thanks giving the time to read / reply

to be honest it sounds more like an air leak problem and not a proper timing issue.
Check that the vacuum pipe from carb to the dizzy is fitted and isnt damaged and the nuts retaining the carb to the manifold are tight.
by the way advance is about 5-8 deg static and 10-12 deg with timing gun and vacuum disconnected.

Cheers for the info, I'll have a butchers at it tomorrow when I'm home from work.
I'll probably slap some hylomar on the joins for good measure as I normally would
I had a look at the plugs when the issue first cropped up but my good ole' haynes manual proved no irregularities in them.
Still I cleaned them up and put them back, seemed fine after that until now.
Fingers crossed this helps the problem
Thanks

Okay so after taking a look, it seems to be running okay, I took the carb off and put some hylomar on the gaskets to ensure a greater seal.
Spark plugs were fine as usual.
One thing I noticed was the hose on my carb that runs to the breather was just pushed on at the carb end so I found a 1/4" jubilee clip to secure it tight.
I'll be sorting the timing this weekend and fitting an electronic ignition. I fitted one on my last mini after going through points ignition twice, so it seems electronic ignition is better imo.
So hopefully my overrun issue will be resolved once the timing is done
