Can anyone recommend a suitable pulley damper to use with a trigger wheel? I know MED do a nice shiney cnc one for about £150 quid but wondered if any other out there for less money.

You don't need a crank damper for MJ, but they aren't cheap though worthwhile. The cheapest damper would be standard A+ one There are several trigger wheel options, like the A series specific one from trigger wheels.

I already have the triggerwheel specific one but in order to keep the triggerwheel from moving once in place I would spot weld it or mechanically fix it to the original pulley. In doing so id be compromising the damper as it would essentially be fixed to the pulley. I thought the whole idea of an 'a' series having a damper was to damp the resonance in the crank caused by the on off force through the conrods to protect the crank from snapping?

It is, it's just the counterweight (on the outside of the rubber bonding) that needs to be free to move. The trigger wheel sits in the hub and shouldn't effect it. Rather than weld it, you could drill a hole to dowel, or screw, it to the pulley hub.
