I've seen a number of places are now selling switch illumination kits for the switches mounted above the heater. I've often found myself fumbling in the dark looking for the heated rear window switch or the hazard switch and invariable end up dazzling someone when I switch on the auxilliary lights, etc. Has anyone fitted one of this kits and if so are they any good?

Any thoughts and comments would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers,

Kwack.

They are OK, a bit basic, but they do work. Its a little difficult sometimes to distinguish between off and on, as the light levels are very similar, but for ease of fitment you can't really beat them....

Great, thanks for that. I'll therefore add to my list of things to get.

aye, to back syholl up I've seen one of these kits fitted - it really made a difference in locating the switches, well worth it.

I'm thinking of putting small neon just above the switches on the dash wired up to the side lights (with a separate switch), so that once my head unit is on and the front flips down it will be covered as not to blind anyone.

Ok, I finally got round to ordering the Wood and Pickett kit, which I recently fitted. Fitting was very straightforward and was completed within an hour. The finished result is excellent - all five of the central switches are now lit up when the lights are switched on, giving sufficient light to make driving in the dark much more pleasant. Whilst at it, I fitted their steering column lowering bracket and this has significantly improved the driving position and my ability to see the dials without having to lean forward.

All in all, a couple of very worthwhile modifications in my opinion.

In addition, I recently purchased the Minitastic coil spring conversion, which I'll be fitting in a week or two - I'll keep you posted on progress!

Rgds,

Kwack

I'll take some tonight when it gets dark. As for the kit itself, there's nothing to see as it's all hidden behind the dash.

About £40 all in. See their website for more details - Link to W&P

Minitrailers also do one - it also has a "lights on" warning buzzer and is a bit cheaper too! - Link to MT. I bought the Minitrailers central locking kit some time ago and found that to be of good quality and another worthwhile addition.

Cheers,

Kwack.

Looking forward to the photos... I was going to accomplish this with small LEDS mounted above the switches. I have a 2006 MINI and the new cars use a very red cabin illumination (like a stealth fighter LOL) and I want to replicate that in my classic cabin as well. I figured while I was adding some LEDs I'd put 1-2 above the switch plate with a small shroud to hide the direct light of the LED, but this is another interesting option...

hmm looks good but not sure if i think its worth £40 though. Depends how often you drive at night i guess, its definatly a nice touch but pretty expencive for what it is.

That looks good but couldn't you have just rewired the switches yourself using an ignition switched live for the illumination circuit? Does look better though.
