Hi all,

I really like the look of yellow headlights, but just wanted to find out how to go about this?

• Do I buy yeallow tinted headlight (can these be bought?) or
• Do I tint my original headlights, with a yellow film? or
• Do I get yellow tinted bulb and just replace my original bulb?

How does this work, which route do I go to get this look? Where can can I buy these headlights, if this is the way to do them? And finally are they road leagal?

All help is really appreciated.

Yeah that what I am looking for, but I am sure I have seen the whole headlight unit in glass without the covers, as I do not like the black clips in there.

Or eBay search, transparent vinyl.. Buy light yellow and wrap your headlights.. That's what I've done to both of my minis.. Put the vinyl in the middle of the light then use a hair dryer to heat the vinyl and it'll go stretchy, then pull it over the light making sure theres no creases, it'll cost you just short of 4£!

As far as I know the lights have to transmit a white or yellow light.. So yes, mine have been through MOT's with the vinyl on and not a word was said about it. Il have the photos and link up just after 1.

Correct you do lose some, although I wouldn't say it's enough to put you off doing it.

The plastic covers really do take a lot of light out. Yellow bulbs are the best option, but I don't know if these are still easily available and probably not as halogens.
I don't know the exact figures for loght loss, but yellow means the light is flitered, so with yellow being 1/7th of the light spectrum, expect to lose about 1/7th of the light with an average yellow filter. Probably not critical unless you want to drive quickly at night along dark twisty roads.

If the light is coming out yellow, then that is the part of the light spectrun that has been filtered out.
The French used to be forced to use yellow lights (originally by the Nazis in WW2), but they were pleased when they were able to go to white and get the better night vision.
If you don't drive quickly at night having yellow will probably not be an issue. Just take it gently and you'll be fine.

What is the advantage of yellow headlights? I was followed by a taxi with them recently and it was awful.
