hi im tom geyton and have just invested in a mini sprite from the locel car auction. the following morning i found out it was an automatic which was fine the geerbox seemed great, however 2 weeks later it lost all power and couldnot beat 30mph. I have been told that the auto clutch has gone and was just wondering if i could swap the engin and gearbox with a metro engin gear box?? if so is it a quick in and out job or are there complications???
Thanx
Tommo

I'm sure if you do a search of the forum this has been covered before.
If you want to convert from automatic to manual you will need either a new manual front subframe or get some spacers made up. The front subframes are different for auto and manual. You will also need a pedal box (as you won't have a clutch pedal).
Even if you found another auto and did a straight swap it is at least a weekend's work. The only way you could swap gearboxes with a metro unit is if you found another automatic. You will need tools and equipment and some sort of idea about what you're doing.
Was it a mini garage you took it to? Might be worth getting a 2nd opinion before you go to the time and expense of doing something which might not need doing. I don't know a great deal about autos as I didn't keep mine for long (snail in treacle springs to mind)!!! It might be something which is easily and cheaply fixed.

lol
all that can be done is to check your oil level , maybe change it & the filter...
i have a auto & have read somwhere that minispares do conversion mounts for the manual 'box
so that the subframe can be kept in situ...
i dread the day mine starts playing up ! but will fit a 1.3 auto when that happens
