The police are only interested in vehicle identity crime that's related to stolen vehicles, as this is a potential case of vehicle identity crime in relation to road tax fraud then it's DVLA you need to inform, who have the power to seize the car and crush it if they find it to have a reassigned identity. You can also report it to Ebay as a fraudulent listing as they have the power to remove the listing.

I have reported the listing to eBay and will phone them tomorrow.

I checked on my car check, according to that the car doesn't exist. Odd for a car thats "Used daily". My car's been off the road for 7 year and is recognised on My car check?

A few of my cars dont appear on some searches. just checked in the garage, theyre still there ;-)

That's a bit odd -

Vehicle enquiry
The enquiry is complete.
The vehicle details for WFF 757 are:
Date of Liability 01 09 1995
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 848cc
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BLUE
6 Months Rate £74.25
12 Months Rate £135.00

That's real odd, registered as an 850, colour is blue and as the price of road tax is quoted then it is not registered as historic. It's also odd that it has 7 months MOT but has not been licenced or SORN'd since 1995.
I smell a rat like it needs a VIC check or something.

Thought i would send him a message... wonder if he will reply :proud:

"Just want to know if your aware that this is a re shell and definitely not a 1961 mini. it has mk3 onwards everything (boot, plate light, doors, a panels, bonnet, stereo, rear lights, grill, dials, sunroof, original paint color, steering wheel, interior... i can keep going if you like but i think i covered the most of it... the only part of this car that is worth the money is your v5."

"This is not me trying to ruin your sale but i think you and the people bidding need to know."

I dont know much, but is it a later shell with just a private plate on it? is that why it would need to be taxed? that hes trying to say is a 1961? And looking at the pictures i cant see a tax disc at all, do historic cars not work the same as agricultural vehicles, the tax disc costs nothing but it still has to be displayed? does he just think it doesnt need one?

Yes that is how it works... basicly what you do is get a log book for a pre tax mini and then buy the chassis number plates from Minispares as they will print new ones with log books... then it just gets welded onto the shell and its tax exempt... this is illegal though but its hard to find our unless your an idiot like this guy.

I hate how they state it's a very rare model when the only original part is the licence plate! What a rip off!

Exactly the same as agricultral, even to the point that tax is ripped off at the fuel fill up. Bar stewards

Off topic abit. im slowly rebuilding mine. i know mine is a reshell. it was reshelled in 82 into a 80 shell after the original 66 shell was rolled several times on a night rally. now with all these threads about tax diddleing/ringing should i just give up on mine as i suppose im going to be getting ripped like all these ebay ringers

There's a difference about reselling a mini with a second hand shell, and revinning a mini to either make it appear older, or to make it 'not stolen'

Reshelling was legal all those years ago, therefore if done then is fine, this example has nothing from the 60's on it, even the plates are later examples, the exterior only repaint makes it very , very suspicious.....
