Having a bit of trouble with water getting into the footwell, I have narrowed it down to the fact the existing rubber check arm seal is knackered! However I'm confused about the replacement ones as it says they are sponge type, surely they wont work correctly? Just need to know if they're okay to use? Also its a 1991 Mayfair.

Are you sure its getting in through there? I don't even have those seals fitted on mine and get no leaks

definitely as you can see it coming in but the rubber has broke and had it!

You can get "sponge" material which is closed cell, where each little bubble is self-contained and sealed. It does not absorb or transmit fluid, so if perfectly ok for applications like that. The usual sponge is open cell, and you know what that does.

In this case the sponge is necessary to be able to retain a good seal because it allows for more compression than is possible with solid rubber.

These are not intended to keep water out - there really shouldn't BE any water there.......

I had a water leak -fitted a pair of the "sponge" type seals and cured it.
