Hi freaker,

I don't think I will be right away as this will be used again for a 16valver. Or depending how this one goes it could be onto building another 8 valver for our other mini.

Parts have been delivered to radtec hopefully the head will be done by Friday. The block could be away slightly longer perhaps ready for collection start of next week.

Do not drill those stud holes on a piller drill or using that template. Not if you want them to be straight or anywhere near the right position.

Get it done on a mill with at least a DRO.

76mm side to side clocked off the front three stud holes and 86 front to back.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for highlighting these figures. The block will be modified using a miller and clocking has been discussed with the machine shop.

The recent Lack of updates are due to travelling with work and now a holiday away. Im planning on ordering the conversion kit when I return. And start looking for a decent crank pulley.

Pistons are dished in this engine build.

Thanks

Ah ok just wondered if dished pistons would give a high enough cr with the chamber size of the 8v head.

Hi "in-a-mini" sorry for a late reply.

With this project I'm following the basic design that SC used in their first 1293 twin cam engine. This was fitted into the White SC clubman estate. This engine produced around 105-110hp with a CR of around 10.4:1 using 95RON fuel. The AE slipper pistons that are being used have an 8.3cc central dish. Pockets will have to be cut into the pistons but i'm unsure of the actual cc of these so i'm leaving it for SC to do. The 8 valve head has around 23cc chamber size in standard form. With the alloy welding that has been done to the head, i will have to take some material off the face to confirm it's flat, so this 23cc will decrease slightly. The SC head gasket that will be used is 0.6mm giving 2.85cc. The block has been decked and we're using a standard stroking crank and +060" pistons.

I will be calling John at SC tomorrow just to confirm my calculations but i'm hoping of around the 10.5:1 figure.

Blog has been updated with more pictures tonight incase people want to have a look.

Thanks

Good luck with your build.

Have you seen my SC K1380rs build on TMF?
