So where is the satin black coming from? is he using whats left over from the lotus which is why its so cheap?

because it has additives mixed in mate so you dont have to have a lot and its only 1 layer just to go over the flatted stuff :)

I know it's got stuff mixed in as I've got a matte car myself, was just wondering why you bought the matte paint rather than a gloss as its cheaper than satin or matted, but if you've got it that's cool and hope it comes out how you plan. Get some piccies up when it's done though.

i think you have mis understood

having the car sprayed in gloss 2 pac black properly (ie inc preped) will cost me £850

having the car sprayed in 2 pac lacquer properly (ie inc flatting back with one smooth layer of satin black) will cost me £250

that is why :)
im so excited! lololololol

We can spray propper Matt / satin black. Proper standox paint with additives mixed in. Will offer proper protection as its not pourous like rattle can matt black, and it looks awsome!!!!

Pm me for more details it you interested bud:)

it had been done before i had the car, but ive got to the point now where i just want a gloss finish :P
where you at?

newport, essex.

doing what you said, lacquering matt black. Why?? it will make it look odd, shiney, but dull:P and im not 100% sure but the laquer could have an effect with the matt additive in the paint

also, how can the bloke who is doing your respray say that one will be much, much cheaper than the other? if he is doing it right both would require the same amount of prep, same laquer. agreed there is only 1 coat of paint going on but that cant be the maker or breaker for 600 quid!

for a mini, full exterior respray with only the top coat rubbed down and undercoated, then black and laquer put on top would be around 750 - 800. maybe less, depending on the amount of work. thats around what we would charge.

Thats the point I was trying to get to the bottom of too. To me using matte paint to get that finish just doesn't make sense, but wish the op all the best and hope he gets the finish he's after.

The matte was a typo, I was thinking generally that the paint would be matted rather than gloss so my bad; I know its satin.

I think the point Artful is trying to put across is why the difference in price as the work required is pretty much the same and from my experience gloss paints are cheaper to buy than matte or satin finishes as the matting agent is very expensive.

That's the bit that doesn't really make sense out of tall this, the process/paints being used are just a little different for a similar end result.

Maybe let us know what extra work he'll be doing or materials he'll need for the additional £600? just out of curiosity more than anything

Please post some piccies up of cars he's done too, sounds like he's done some nice motors.
