HI m8

Sorry but you say 'didn't look to back' and wondered if that was a typo and you meant bad or black?

As for giving it a few coats it would be best to go over it with a paint cleaner to take off any polish and road grim, then flat it back with 1000 grade wet and dry prior to spraying it, and remember this time of year it needs to be done somewhere warm, or sometimes the paint goes cloudy.

Also if your doing it with cans, just remember to give it at least three coats, because cans don't give that great a finish so with more coats, means you can then flat and polish and should look fine when done. If using a proper spray gun give it at least two coats and again flat and polish.

:)

just spoke to a respectable painter just down the road from me who has done top notch work for us before,
he said he will flat it back, re-spray satin black and make it gloss with the lacquer for £250!!!
so im doing that at the end of this month hopefully! :)
he showed me a lotus he was doing at the time, the same thing ironically and it looks amazing!

Why use satin if you're glossing it with lacquer anyway?

because what it will do, is give a better solid colour that just flatten it which is better than the patchyness that is has atm

you might as well just get him to paint it black rather than lacquering it.

to get it done gloss back would set me back about £700 or £850 for the pearlescent white that i want.
as its so much for my financial position, ide rather pay for a lacquered satin black finish which is basically gloss black and save up :) cant wait! ive never had a shiny one! that sounds dodgy :P!

Artful:- Maybe a dumb question.... But why is mixed paint non porous where as rattle can is? I'm assuming (maybe incorrectly) that you'll be using standard cellu with a % of matting agent?

nope, the rattle can std matte black is usually some poor paint that is quite porous. get a bit of steel, spray some matt black on it and leave it out side, it will usually rust, unless you use propper rattle can paint, the cans that usually cost a good 20 quid.

not celluloce, proper old fashioned 2k. not available to body shops any more, we only get supplied the limited amount produced because we are special licenced historic vehicle restorers.

because it has additives mixed in mate so you dont have to have a lot and its only 1 layer just to go over the flatted stuff :)
