I haven't been able to select reverse gear and when I took the box out sure enough you couldn't even push the selector across. (usual suspects were checked 1st before removal) After some gentle persuasion I got it to move but once selected the diff/gears won't do a complete turn before it locks? There is not visible teeth missing or debris to lock the rotation and with a strong push it will move past the lock point. The gearbox spins freely when reverse is not selected.
Has anyone ever come across this and would you have any idea to what could be causing it?
Second gear syncro is F'd so I will need to replace that but the reverse is a puzzle to me.
Any help would be appreciated or maybe its just time for a 4 sycro box or dog box but as funds are tight I thought I could try to salvage it first.

Sounds possible that you might have a four synchro reverse gear?

Thanks for the reply 62S & R1minimagic.
I've owned and run the box for the last 15 odd years, replacing the main gear set a couple of years ago with no problem at all. I only discovered the lack of reverse after an oil change and a piece of metal came with the sump plug! I assumed it was one of the gear teeth as i've had this before, but on close inspection, all gears were intact (apart from the 2nd gear syncro) which is missing a few teeth and are tiny in comparison. I wondered if the reverse shaft may had bent lifting the gear too close causing it to lock?
