Have a random yellowy wire in my engine bay doing nothing.
Out of the loom that connects to the coil.

Car starts fine however my red charge/ignition/battery light doesnt light up
I want to take it out to test but I fear that my battery will not be charging.

Ive got a wire from the diZzy connected to the alternator
Maybe my alternator is goosed from the crash :/

Cant see where that wire should go, no wiring has been changed from before the crash when it was working fine!!

My mistake its from dizzy to a yellow/black wire in the loom, nothing to do with alternator

It starts so the coil stuff must be right.

This yellow wire( not bright yellow ) is from the coil loom
I see something on side of alternator that has RC on
Is this a connector??

the one you think is yellow/black is probably a grubby white/black

white/black goes from dizzy to the loom, through the loom and attaches to coil negative

I'm guessing the yellow wire is white/yellow and you should also have a white/pink attached to the coil positive.

the white/yellow will run through the loom and attach to a terminal on the solenoid

Yes, and if the white/yellow was disconnected, it might still start, at least in moderate weather, with fairly new plugs, exactly correct mixture, and a good battery. In bad conditions it would likely not start, because the white/yellow is the ballast resistor bypass for starting. Once running, it is out of circuit and has no effect.

Nah it's plain yellow

I have an immobiliser and the pink yellow have been messed with for part of its installation so I only have one connector on the positive side of my coil :) sorry should have mentioned this earlier

Its just a plain yellow and ive kust used the car with no problems soo god knows :/

I'll take a picture tomorrow and show you
But if it turns out to be the white yellow it has never been connected and not once has it failed to start in all states of tune and through winter etc

Well, do you have a ballast coil, and the white/pink wire?

What exact model is this Mini? Yellow is normally only found on the wire from the tail lights to the nearest bullet connector, and is part of the light unit, not the Mini loom. White/yellow is used on the diagnostic connector of later models. Try cleaning it a bit more to see if it might be white, although it does not seem likely. If you scrape a small thickness off with a sharp blade (don't go too deep!) you will be able to see the original colour. Also, is the wire live all the time, with ignition on, with lights on, or never?

Do you have the white/pink and white/yellow wires both actually on the coil positive terminal, where they should be?

It's an 85 mini Ritz
With I believe it's original engine

The white pink and white yellow are on the coil positive yeah and 2black whites on negative

I havent tested it at all, I cant remember whether it was connected to anything before the crash
Everything electrical works as far as I know

Headlights, sidelights, indicators everything inside works

How can I test that it's live?? I dont have a multimeter or anything
