can u lift the dizzy out and put it back in the hole without breaking anything?
or will i have dropped something inside?

as long as the drive that goes down onto the cam does not get stuck on the end of the dizzy and you start to pull it out and then it falls in

thats the only thing that may happen

you can do this aslong as u dont pull the worm gear out as this will drop into the gearbox, you will be able to see if this is still in place by lookin in the hole, you also need to ensure this is in its correct postion as this will affect the timing but this is detailed in the haynes manual

im doing this so i can a drill in to helicoil the dizzyclamp hole

how likely are things going to drop in the gearbox while im drilling?

Swarf from drilling will go in yes, the distributor drive shaft itself is unlikely to fall in unless you turn the engine over with the distributor removed! Assuming you pull the distributor out straight, you should be fine, you'll need to re-set your timing afterwards too.

Just pop a bit of gaffer tape over the hole (degrease the block are first!)
This'll stop any swarf getting down into the dizzy drive!!

Hold off a bit on that re-tapping and HeliCoiling.

In your other thread it sounds like with the A+ block and the measurements you took for the bolt diameter... like the wrong bolt (too small) has been in there all along. It would be best to find a 3/8" bolt to try first. You may not have to do anything at all except replace the bolt.

well ive ordered a 3/8 and 5/16 allen key headed bolt ( so it dont foul the dizzy body) and ill see which if any fits when they come!
