not sure but pretty certain MPi's n SPi's use Nippon Seiki type gauges whereas the older Minis use Smiths?

Dimensionally they will fit, not sure if the connector fits, but one thing to be aware of is the tacho on the later mpi clocks runs off the ECU not from a coil feed, so it will need recalibrating

Connectors fit the same, the rev counter can be re calibrated by turning the screw on the inside.

The SPI will work, while the MPI not and will read twice. As guessworks said mpi rev counter can be recalibrated to be used with standard coil.

And why will the mpi not?

Because the mpi runs a wasted spark ignition system

Hi guess works. Where is that screw located in the tacho to calibrate it? This can be done by someone or has to go to a specialist?

There is a variable resistor on the rev counter that can be used to adjust the reading. This can be done by yourself with a timing light
