Out of interest, does anyone ever trim the ends of the half moon seal? I know technically your not supposed to but...
I've had to set the seal down with rtv sealant as i had fun and games lowering the block down by hand and getting it lined up ok on the seal without it slipping around. Now i have now set the seal on the gear box housing, i don't think it'll compress evenly.
Got about 4mm exposed each end.

Set it evenly into gearbox with a light run of RTV sealant around it leaving the ends proud by the 3 to 4 mm.
Before lowering the block add a 'blob' of RTV to each protruding end.
Lightly grease the end of the seal where the engine plate slides down and lower the engine onto the gearbox. When it's lowered use a torch to ensure that the seal has not slipped, install all the bolts and do them up wporking from the seal end backwards.
