Most head gaskets are marked 'top' and 'front'. I'm sure the BK450 and AF460, which are really the only good, ones are so marked

What is the part number of the gasket? It needs to be the black BK460 or the copper faced AF460. Any other gasket may be a 'cheapie' inferior one.

One point if I may. When fitting the black gasket fit it 'dry' with no smear of oil on it. When fitting a copper-faced gasket a very light smear of engine oil on the faces is a good thing to do.

Doesn'r sound like a valve seat issue. If it was it would run rough all the time and not just when warm.
It could be a sensor as those MPI's are a bit of a pain in terms of DIY diagnosis. You might need to get it on a diagnostic computer. Try asking on the MPI specific forum on here.
