ok ill try to make this as brief as possible.

i have always insured with footman james (13 years back to back insurance now) often with several cars insured at one time with them. and giving them plenty money for admin charges as i change my cars so often. however all have been classics with the odd exception of a rare few.

so, i am aware that "classic car insurance is flat rate, and as such you dont accumulate any no claims bonus"

my question is, what does "flat rate mean" and why does it stop me having ever accumulated any no claims?

i have recently been informed that F.J. have stopped insuring any modern cars now, and i was thinking of getting one! as they wont cover me, and it seems that no one will accept a letter from them saying i have never claimed in all this time, i am now screwed i think.

this means im looking to go to a new company, and i will be paying a fortune i amagine as to their eyes i dont have any no claims!

and my other question is, does anyone have a recomendation on who to try with bugger all no claims, im only thinking of getting a regular car, not an evo etc.

Years driving experience are also counted, so don't think they will charge you 17yo just passed rates

i just did a quick online quote, 999cc polo 1997, worth a grand £938!!!

i will have to speak to them on the phone see what they can do, but at that price i will only ever drive classic cars!

I was thinking this the other day, I am currently with Adrian Flux and dont think I am gaining a NCD, but I dont see why someone wont accept a signed and headed letter from the prev insurer saying that you havent claimed in the time you were with them, Why is a "no claims discount" any different from a letter saying you havent claimed.

Or is it just another way they can charge more?

Have you tried Peter James ? They are mainly concerned with specialist and classic car insurance, according to their website they also do modern stuff.
"We have competitive rates available for your Modern Cars with tailored discounts to Car Club members and Classic Car enthusiasts."
My son and I have both changed to them this year with his mini and my classic bikes and have made very considerable savings over FJ. They can be contacted on 0121 5066040

check with the insurance ombudsman, i'm pretty certain insurance companies are obliged to accept it as proof of no claims??

the fact that you aren't currently getting a no claims discount is irrelevant.

Being worried about this happening is exactly why I cycle my insurance - two years classic then one year of a normal policy to keep my NCD active/accrued.

Although, recently Adrian Flux have been so cheap for me that it hasn't been worth taking out a classic policy.
