Car: 1994 rover mini cooper 1.3 SPI

Hello I've got a weird problem with the mini.
The standard fit electric fan hasn't been turning on lately when car gets warm.

I went to mini spares to get a new screw in type switch fitted that and it still dont turn on. Temp gauge goes into the red.
The readings from the connections going to the switch are 12.85 positive & the earth cable reads ok. When I bridge the two wires together the fan comes on ?

So this only leaves the switch to look into as the rest of the cars electrics are working ?
Cheers
Clark

So a brand new switch could be at fault ?
Will go back to mini spares tomorrow and see what they say

Have you measured the resistance vs temperature?

Put sensor in very hot water then measure resistance ? Compared to room temp

Do what a lot of people do - fit a manual switch instead. It is simple to do and you just switch it on when you think is is going to get hot, like when you are in heavy traffic, or when it actually starts to indicate that it's hot. Those temperature switches are never very reliable. If you fit a manual switch fit a warning light next to it.

I always do that and it is good to know that you have control over the fan. I do fit a warning light as well as if you leave the fan on it drains the battery a bit.
