eileen is my mini, she is a 1985 mini mayfair she has seen just over a year with me after buying her in july 2011. Unfortunatly the previous owner was a proffessional bodger by the looks of it and maybe the mot i had was not so legitmate, so when i took her for an mot (legitmate one) she failed she has since been taken off the road i am aiming to do a full restore. The last owner knew how to draw art with a mig welder... the last year had been eventful after a wheel came after dodgy parts and many a breakdowns soon to be different as the rebuild is about to begin..... Front subframe already removedPosted ImagePosted Image

yes, what ever you get out of the shell welding splatter wise, sell on ebay as modern art.. some of it was very fancy.. lots of nice spikey bits.. and covered with a nice layer of underseal and blue paint.. shame a lot wasnt actully welded to the metal under it..

and this mini has been so messed up by previous owners the welder from the bodyshop reckons it is beyond repair to a structual sound condition which means fair well body and either a new body or lots of parts are going to be up for sale

I'd be getting a second opinion before considering a shell swap , I was told mine was 'too far gone' by a bodyshop - erm yeah, I proved them wrong...

Hard to believe you can't repair the shell mate. Just look at the many projects on this forum that started with just a pile of rust. On mine, I had to cut out loads of bodges - metal 3 layers thick, filler, ali mesh, etc. Bad welds can be ground down and re-done or cut out altogether. Get another opinion from a Mini specialist or post more photos on here and see what the rest of the guys think.

I went to see this car, went with the money early last year but saw it and walked away. Everything that could have been welded badly was. Even the rear quarters had been replaced and the welds along the door frame were ridiculous. The guy thought it was worth much more than I offered to, just hope you didn't pay too much. I have pictures of all of the worst bits I could try and find and post up for you if you like. It still looked a pretty sweet little car though. Styling wise, subtle and perfect... barr the interior :P just a shame it wasn't done properly.

I don't think its beyond repair by any means at all, anything is do-able. There is better out there but its a good enough starting base, it's a nail thats for sure.
