Hi my name Drew I am currently rebuilding a 1999 mini checkmate it had not been started for 18 months but was running well before we started.
Last week It restarted at the first turn of the key but as the garage doors were shut the fumes started to build up quickly as the paint on the new exhaust started to burn off so we turned it off opened the doors and restarted it again at the first turn of the key. i turned it off again to top up the radiator and thats when the problem began.
The engine turns over but there are no sparks going to the spark plugs, so i suspected the soil was faulty so i replaced it with a new one, still no sparks.
I think that the electronic ignition module in the aldon distributor is at fault
Does anybody know what the attached module is and where i can get a new one ?
Thanks
Drew

Here is the procedure to test a Pertronix ignitor, which looks identical to the one in your photos:

1. Connect a jumper wire from the Ignitor Plate to battery ground.
2. Connect the Red wire from the Ignitor to the battery positive terminal along with the red lead from a volt meter.
3. Attach the Black wire from the Ignitor to the black lead of the voltmeter.
4. Move or rotate the magnet sleeve in front of the Ignitor Module, the voltmeter should vary from battery voltage to 0 volts and back.
5. If it does not, then you possibly have a burned out Power Transistor or a failed Hall cell.

I found this on the internet and maybe it can help diagnose your problem?
