Explanation understood but the original post was regarding a factory engine with a few subtle mods so it wont be anything like 80bhp

Exactly what I said originally.
If you look at the advertised figures, the original 1275GT was really no more powerful than a 998 Cooper.
My subsequent posts were as a result of the post saying David V. got some amazing figure from a 'standard' GT engine. So Adrian pointed out what David did to his and I quoted what a 'blueprinted' 1275 Cooper 1990 engine could give when literally hours & hours were spent on the build. If those hours had to be paid for it would have been well over £2000 in labour alone when balancing was included.

I know and if more time was spent then 85 or 90bhp may have been possible....all as standard

No, that would give 60 bhp. Remember, the Cooper 'S' 1275 with twin SU's a decent head, a 510 cam, 3-branch ex. manifold, etc, only gave 75 bhp.
To get 80 bhp from a 1275GT engine requires a better cam & head, a better ex.manifold, a bigger carburettor on an alloy inlet manifold and a higher compression ratio.
You're obviously not as good as David Wizard who got that sort of power from a std 1275 in a CCC article.
How did he get it from a standard 1275? Out of thin air?
He probably did it by improving the head, adding a good inlet manifold, a good exhaust system, modifying the carb and cam.
His name is Vizard by the way.
The engine was not stripped or heavily modified, even had the single HS4 iirc. He was tweaking the engine for an event that the intended engine would not be ready for. I am fully aware how some people spell his name, but owing to the magical qualities he managed on this engine one gets the name he deserves.
Anyone got a set of CCC from 69 to 71?
