on my 1992 mayfair the tower bolt holes do not line up with the center of the cone so the thread of the tool doesn't screw into the hole, has anyone else had this problem? does anyone have a solution?.. i know this car had a small shunt a couple of years ago, could be some undetected accident damage.
by the way, i'm trying to fit new cones and hi-los, so if there's a destructive solution to getting the old cones out that may be necessary.

If you don't want the trumpets as you're changing the cones you can cut them however this can be dangerous due to the amount of tension.

i thought it might be a bit dangerous, there's a chance of 'clamping' the cutting tool? can you cut the rubber cone instead? then again i don't suppose there's enough room

Take the top arms out, use a large diameter phillips screwdriver to knock the shaft through and that will release the tension in the donut as well as being safe, then simply pull the screwdriver back out and it will all come apart

i did some with a member on here and had the same problem.... we just drilled a few holes into the trumpet with a 10mm drill bit
