Never owned the XR2 but had a Mk1 fezzer and it was a lovely little car. The XR2 is a nice car but finding one with no rust and in good running order will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The engines are good but like most old kent engines they need to be serviced well. They do respond well to tuning and go really well.

Bodywork wise they rust like any old Ford but are easy to work on. The interior trim will be hard to replace but somewhere somebody will have some.

Handling wise they were good from standard but decent tires make all the difference along with well sorted suspension.

Cheers it was between the fiesta the mk1 golf gti or a mk2/3 escort xr3! I love the shape of them all i love oldskool cars! I have seen a few xr2's for sale and they were all great it's different when was the last time you saw 1?

I know someone who had one, he put a 2litre turbo into it only for it to be written off by someone hitting him into a ditch and rolling it.

Not seen a XR for a very long time. In my old village there was a pristine 1100 in a powder blue that was crying out to be lowered and some banded steelies.

Gutting! I have come to the conclusion that all these oldskool cars which were everywhere when i was younger where crashed more as they were the favorites of the boy racers! You hardly ever see them around now but a few years ago everybody had one! It's a shame but makes it more appealing to me!

if you can get a really nice one you'll love it.
i had one with a 1700 Burton engine and it flew, one of my all time favourite cars, just make sure it isnt rusty-inner wings and strut tops esp.
and trim is very hard to source now.
if you like mini's you'll really like one of these-much more bang for buck on a modified crossflow than an A series imho.

I don't like the MK2's as much although they do go well. Never been a lover of the CVH, had one in our lhd XR3 and what a nail. New dizzy (that caused some grief) re newed the bottom end but the bodywork was like new. Just a shame the previous owner was a complete and utter clown ( i would have said something else but i would be breaking the rules) :xxx:
