NZ, I remember all the trouble you had, which would not have been normal 20 or 30 years ago. It seems that more than a few others have also had very similar problems recently. Something is wrong, and it is not just the circlip, although that may be an adequate fix, as long as the piston movement does not take the seal as far as the circlip groove.

I am convinced that there are two remaining possibilities, either certain spares such as the clutch lever, push rod or even slave cylinder are being made to incorrect dimensions, or after a few removals, flywheels are creeping further up the cranksahft taper, or maybe it is a combination of all these things. I do know that the quality of spares from some of the major suppliers is generally poor nowadays.

Maybe someone with two supposedly identical clutch setups, one working and the other not, will be able to make some detailed comparative measurements to bottom out this problem once and for all.

right cot the clucth off yesterday. got it all rebuilt and started it again still not working, pluss while its been sat up a rear cylinder has given up so i now have that to change as well.

right im a little bit confused as to why its not work

when i tuck it apart the paddle is propper warn and is scrap, its gone down that much the pop rivits which id call them had score marks on them, so thats a bin job
so cleaned it all up and replaced it with a minispares rally plate which is almost new.

put it back in that car and ive got exactly the same probblem

so im torn between 2 things

1 buy a gallon of petrol and burn the thing :)

or 2 strip it all apart again, and investergate

i like idea 1 best, i suppose clutch release spring could have soemthing to do with it, the way i look at it its only gonna take me an hour tops to get it all apart again

right ive pulled the clutch out again :/

so i checked the flywheel and the back plate with a thine tooth comb, nothign out the ordinary no groves or massive wear on it.

checked the clutch nothign wrong with that

while it was off i had a look at the primary gear and thats spins fine no rust on it, end of teh crank has no wear on it either, so im happy with that

checked the grey plate and there was a shiny ring round the outside of it, so ive put that to one side, i do have a spare grey so im not worried about that.
but the little plate which sits on the diarpham, has a circle grouve round it, now i say its not deep but when you run a finger nail over it you know its there, and its the same shapes as the release bearing.

so im thinkign the release bearing as marked the little plate which has caused it to stop throwing out, now ive checked teh release bearing and there looks to be no wear there.

so im thinkign this could be to do with the grey plate diaprham and the little plate.

so im goign to change them and see what happens

will keep this updated
