hey up,
whilst the mini is now declared SORN for the winter an stuck in the garage im thinking of doing a few jobs, iv got a stage 3 big valve head which im going to be putting on, but im wanting some info on roller tip rockers, my dad used to rally minis but packed in during the 80s so hasnt come across them before
hes also fancying trying a set of bike carbs as we dont want to cut the bulkhead for webbers, mainly i wanted to ask about bike carbs, whos got what, sizes etc.
Eventully were going to take the engine out an paint it all moog green and put a straight cut box in but dads just started his 68' cooper so the garage is gonna be too tied up this winter for mine.
cheers

my main question is what kind of spec is your engine already, a well worked head will obviously be beneficial to you im sure, buit as to if roller rockers are going to be any good to you or not is dependent on other factors....

what cam do you have? and you will have to check your valve springs can take the extra travel without binding or crushing under the increaded travel the rockers will give.

the other thing is there are pretty expensive for comparatively small gains.

for simplicity i would stick with your hif44, its unrestricted to way above the sort of power your going to be making any time soon.

assuming you have a stage one kit already fitted (exhaust, maifolds etc) then a better head would be a good move. it will make a notable improvement even without changing the cam.

however, a session on the rolling road is going to make the best of any work you do. so dont cut corners and try to skip it!

Yeh itll be definetely be going on the rolling road when it goes back on the road, im just gonna keep an eye out for a set of twin carbs. Im hoping to have the engine out next winter an yeh i have the LCB manifold and strsight thriugh exhaust etc. fitted allready. Iv got a massive list of things to do but this winter anyway.
Does anyone think twin 1 1/2's will be overkill???

I run a 38mm bike carb on my supercharged setup. It works well. The only issue I have is I need to go up in size. Generally you will find boke carbs are smaller than we are used to but have all the tricks to make them flow better, like tuned ram pipe, knife edged. You will need a rolling road operator that understands them, most use weber style jets So why move to them. Well they use a diaphragm not an oil piston. they are optimised, and are newer so you find an good one

Iv been thinking/talked into twin SUs by my dad, and thinking about rolling road, mini sport is only 25 miles from my house so if I take it there they will understand SUs a lot better than bike carbs an will keep all the spares and jets. a bit gutted that I can't drive it now untill next year!!!

As long as they're going on a big bore engine they'll be fine.
Have a search, i posted something about roller rockers a couple of weeks ago.
