Hi im currently building a 1293 engine but the cylinder head which is a 12G840, seems to have to water outlet blocked off. Does any one know why and what to do about it?

Does anyone know what the hole in the second picture is for?

The water outlet is blocked because its a later typre head that took the water from the thermostat housing area instead with the use of a sandwich plate and an in line plastic water tap.

If you want the use the original water outlet then just drill it out making sure to get all the swarf (metal bits) out.

As for second hole...not sure, but i've got the same on a head of mine and it has a rivet put in it....been like that since i've had it so probably redundant on a mini and not needed.

oh and your head is probably a 12G '9' 40 head....probably a bad casting number.

Mine also has a rivet in it. I thought it was a bodge when I first noticed it, but have a seen a few now and they all have it. I can only assume it was a factory fitted bodge.

Ha ha ha....factory fitted bodge.....love it!!!!! :D :D :D :D :gimme:

The hole is probably a by-product of the manufacturing process. And a rivet is probably the best (and cheapest....this is BL remember) solution as a filler.
