Need to replace my temp sender unit on the head, just a quick question do i need to drain my coolant at all if there a chance of unscrewing it and getting cover in water and anti freeze or not and should i use any ptfe tape for good measure

The fit should be more than water tight, if the old one isn't leaking I'd guess the new one won't either.

I put a smear of copper grease on mine, but I like copper grease!

And yes, you can definitely swap them over with hardly any coolant loss. Unscrew the old one while applying pressure against it, then once you're unthreaded - switch em over Indiana Jones style and you're sorted ;D

It shouldn't leak much, jack up that side of the car. I think I'd dry the threads 'n grease them, but the sensor has a tapered seat that seals (like a brake union) so no need for ptfe tape.

Jacking up, I like it!

Yeh mine didn't leak much, maybe just about enough to warrant topping up a little afterwards. The thread is long so it won't leak. Just don't ruin the tread by rushing too much!
