Hey guys,
Having my mini now for about three weeks i am Hoping to have a big weekend on my mini this week, and after managing to get the new seal and chrome trim into my windscreen, i think, fingers crossed i may have stopped the leaks into it, the problem i am facing is the steamed up windscreen / frost
obviously now having the new seal and trim fitted, i should start to see an improvement keeping the moisture out of the seal,
i know the carpets are soaked in the foot wellls and i will be replacing them all as soon as im sure the leaks have stopped into the car so im guessing that will help right?
the rear screen doesn't clear so im going to guess that either the switch, wiring or terminals to the rear screen ( ive not looked into this yet) so if anyone can prepare me for what i may need to do or look at?
But the main one that im really unsure about is the heater, if i turn it on it just makes a loud racket and gets slightly warm but even without the dash in you cant even feel a warm breeze flowing up the pipes to the screen, if i take the pipes off at the heater you can feel warm air and that does warm the car up a lil bit but when in traffic i start to steam up regardless of pipes connected or not and have to drive with both windows about an inch down, im hoping to amend this tomorrow, but what steps or stages should i be looking for/at , im willing to take the heater out, from the inside, but ive seen on the passenger side theres two pipes going into it, should i flush the heater out?
the motor sounds really noisy tho and would like to get that addressed too, any ideas guys?
Many Thanks
Stevie

You can take the heater out in under half an hour, so it worth a look - just a couple of screws up into the dash rail, and the rear sits on open topped "hook" brackets. You might have to slacken the nuts, one each side, but only 3-4 turns.

Even easier usually, as the factory usually only fitted one of the two nuts. I found that to be the case on a new 1984 nodel, and a not very old 1976 model that would not have had the heater ever removed. I put it down to laziness and lack of proper QA.

I have now taken the heater out, took it apart and pretty much serviced it all out, water had got into the unit and also glass, im guessing from maybe a previous smashed windscreen and its ran through the screen heating pipe!
so now i just have the inlet and outlet rubber pipes coming into the car, is there another matrix or anything in the engine that i need to flush out too?
also when i have connected it all back up how much water / anti freeze should i put in ?
also just out of curiosity how does the lower dash come off, choke cables n that ?

fit 88 c thermostat, flush coolant system and renew coolant. 50/50 mix (antifreeze / water mix)
also make sure the air feed pipe to heater is attached and ok (above ur pedals and into the osf wing)
Remove carpets and underlay (espically the foam type stuff, it really holds water). Once everythings out, dry the floors with a towel or blue paper etc, put your carpets on radiator or in garage to dry, run car for a couple of days without carpets to check for further water ingress.
