we are currently (still) working on my house and as the budget allows getting everything perfect.

however, i am planning to convert the loft into my "den" in which im going to have a big telly, and a big comfy sofa. but i dont want to just paint it out and throw some carpet down.

i have been toying with the idea of painting the walls to look like some kind of old bunker, or rivveted steel plates along with loads of other silly ideas.

i did see a guy on the news a few years ago who made his whole flat look like the bridge of the enterprise but i think thats a bit too far, and im not really a trecky either.

were also planning to do the dinning room like an american diner, juke box, checkered floor tiles, red and white leather cadilac style seating, stainless steel table and vinyl records on the wall etc.

so any ideas guys and gals? think outside the box!

I like the bunker sort of look personally. I put some of those industrial cage style "weathertight" lights in my storage room, along with a fallout shelter sign, and a poster that says "Keep Calm and Kill Zombies" LOL. It's a small area and not for entertaining, but I'm enjoying it.

Anyway I really like the lights, it makes all the difference in the world for the room and sort of goes with the bunker look you mentioned. Plus they are cheap (~£20 in the states anyway) and not likely to break anytime soon in a home. I put low watt red bulbs in them too, forgot to mention that bit.

Without seeing the space it's hard to give you too many meaningful ideas.

You could always paint the walls red with white trim and chrome fixtures and go with a Monte Carlo Rally theme!

i was in a shop over at cheddar gorge a few weeks back and in the back the walls were all made of fibreglass, which was over polystyrene. it was all shaped like rock (as per inside the caves at cheddar) it would be a huge task, but i told the missis i was going to do that in the loft so it looked like the inside of a cave lol!

the loft is 12' square in the area where you can easily stand up straight, and the roof is obviously slopping away after that. its down in these areas where i will have some kind of storage, and also where the central heating header tank will be concealed.

My hubby turned our kitchen into an engine building room years ago along with our living room into an Aeroplane modelling room (fabalon, modelling iron and brand new rug don't mix!) bedroom into Paraglider storage area and summerhouse into spray booth!

LOL Tspoon!

Cradley-heathen, I thought another idea for that size loft... the deck of a ship. Not necessarily full on pirate ship, but wooden rails, wooden deck style flooring, brass port holes, a net or two thrown about.... or you could go with a modern luxury yacht type of deck...

Anyway maybe not your thing but it crossed my mind. :)

im not against that idea at all, it would be cool to have a full panaoramic image across three of the walls like you were looking out at the sea lol.
this is the kind of thinking i like, radical thinking!
