Temperature Gauge Reading Just Above Cold

I decided to change my 2 clock dash for a 3 clock dash.
Since changing it the temperature gauge just sits above the blue mark.
I put the old clocks back in and the temperature needle sits in the correct place.
So that has narrowed the fault down to the new clocks.
PCB tracks look fine no breaks, from searching on here it may be the voltage regulator?
Mini is a spi 96
Clocks from 97 mpi (magnolia dials)
Fuel gauge works fine no issues.
Thanks in advance

I think that, behind the faces they are both Nippon Seiki, and are the same.

thanks, i was just about to try that but if i ground the water temperature sender wire (green/blue) the needle goes into the red which i think means the gauge is working.Try swapping the temp gauge from the old one to the new, as it might be the gauge.

Next step:

If the original clocks are reading right then it's nothing to worry about as the car is getting up to running temp.

I was thinking that mod might work . I'll take a trip into maplins and give it a go! CheersIt probably is the voltage regulator, I have the same problem I've tried a new thermostat and sender, and when grounded the temp goes to red so the gauges are fine.

i know the feeling im thinking the same. a new smiths gauge for the dash would be much nicer, now just to convince "the boss"Let us know if it does, I've got the bits but I'm being lazy and haven't done it yet

I thought Spi and Mpi clocks were different?
I'm not sure but they both appear the same in appearance and have the same circuit pattern I think.
