Hi!
Iàm helping my friend to prep his mini 1974 for a paint job.
We got all the primers and stuff, but still missing the basecoat and clearcoat.
Do you guys have any idea how much waterbased basecoat we will need and 2k clearcoat.
We are using Dupont, so the basecoat will be Dupont cromax and clearcoat Dupont chromaclear clearcoat 3800s.
As primer we use Dupont 1056r dark grey because the finally color will be dark blue metallic or pearl.
by the way the 3800s coat needs no thinner.
mixing ratio 3:1.
Best regards : Chris.

the last mini i done in base and clear used about 5 litres of base and 4 of clear.
That was painting outside, all the bits showing inside, engine bay, inside boot. not the roof though.

dupont chroma 3800s clear is damn expensive stuff mate!!! morelli sell it for about £275+vat for 5 litres. but awesome stuff!!
i dont think you will need any where near 5 litres of it, more like 2 should do it. because 2 will give you nearly 3 with the hardener, (make sure you use the correct one!!!) and it goes on like nothing i have aver seen. its unbelievable. so u wont need a lot to get the desired finish.
odd question.. is the lacquer in date?? because there was a lot going around a few years ago that was out of date and i had some, i kept a gallon(which i still have) to use on my own mini, and started using it on a few panels. and was over the moon with the outcome. nearly gun finished in my garage. but i wanted it like glass so was gona flatten the hell out of it any way. and it came up lovely. then over time it kept settling down and needed re flattening slightly. but it has never seemed to dried properly, the bonnet goes flat quite often and i can make a fingernail mark in it if i press it quite hard.
and this is after about 1 1/2 years.
im not totally sure if has anything to do with the dates but i was always curious. because 3800s has been around for years.
just something ot bear in mind. but if you buying new from a shop i dont think you will have this problem.
i take it as your using waterbased your using a booth??
why water based ??

3 ltrs of base and 2.5 ltrs of clear should do it with some to spare, depending on the coverage of the base
