Its me again hehe... There's a blue wire that warms up quite a bit at the steering collum only when headlights are on, it doesn't happen with sidelights on or main beam

Its a new loom but this wasn't happening before, only really noticed after changing alternator.

Bulbs are 60/55w cheers

The only blue wire which should be there is the feed from the light switch to the dip switch. Is it getting hot at its terminals, or in the middle? If in the middle it is a massive overload, so check the ratings of your bulbs again. And what do you mean by it not happening on main beam?

Is the wire the same thickness as the blue/red and blue/white?

Gets hotter at the terminal on the column switch but the wires do get warm, will double check bulbs later and check wire. The blue wire doesn't warm up when main beam is on, it stays cool....

Blue/white and blue/red same thickness... Drivers bulb defo 60/55 but the passenger bulb I can't get out, the clip isn't there but the lugs den to have seen melted overbulb to stop it moving... So can't really check that unless I have a new headlight...

The melting at the headlight doesn't sound good and could be related!

Not just melted, they seem like they been flattened purposly over the bulb as there is no clip....

do a voltage test on the alternator whist running should be around 14v.

on my old mr2 the alternator went one nite the voltage went skyhigh as it had a volt meter on the dash. and blew the front bulbs, damaged fuses and some wiring.

I think that the faulty headlight has a partial short which is why it has melted, and that is what is overheating the wire.

I'll do a test tomorrow, and I'll get a picture of the headlight so you guys know what I mean then I'll have to start searchin for some new headlights... Might just replace with wipacs again :)

Up early for work so I thought id get a pic of rear of lamp and do a test... Pics sent that great but I try upload later.. However did a test as said and I did it at wing solenoid (does this make a differance and I did it on the permanent live side of it.. And it were showing 16.5 average sometimes jumping to 17v, new alternator?

Don't condemn the alt too quick, at 17v your battery should be gassing like hell and spitting acid everywhere, I think the OP may have mentioned that if it were
