i have the same problem on the passenger door, it will turn with the key but only lock from inside.
Exact same problem as mine but I fitted remote central locking to it last year so it lock and unlocks at the touch of the button now. I will eventually get round to fixing it so it unlocks off the key lol

As Camp Freddy suggests, there is a small link rod thats runs from the lock arm on the door handle to the striker assembly mechanism. As you turn the key, the arm moves so moving the rod and locking the door.
I had exactly your problem when rebuilding my doors and the small clip that holds the rod to the lock arm had come off.
Whip the door card off or un-screw the striker assembly and you may just be able to reach the rod, depending on which end has come off!!
Hope this helps, Steve,

This happened to my driver's door last week, meaning I had to scramble out of the passenger side if I wanted to lock both doors, not a good look
